Project Two - Jeannie's Toy Concepts

  1. Toy #1: This is probably my favourite toy of the five you came up with. It appeals well to the specified target audience as it twould appeal to all ages and those who are creative and like drawing (which means a whole lot of people at OCAD). It is also a good multi-player game (which as we discussed in class was one of the components that would make a toy fun). If two or more players were playing the game they could have a set time (maybe bringing in an hour glass would be appropriate) to draw what they selected on the two cards. Ex: one of them draws to cards and it is a cat and milk. Then both players have to draw what they can think of combining a cat and milk at then same time within maybe a minute. Then they show it to eachother and decide whose is better/more humorous etc. It would even be ok to play by yourself because you could just challenge yourself to come up with as many designs as possible. Another thing that makes this toy fun is it has good replay value. There are numorous card combinations that could be selected.
Toy #2: This toy sounds kind of interesting however, I don’t know how much fun it would be. After a while you would be sick of putting in the figurines and other items because that’s the extent of the toys play value. It is however an interesting concept. If your heart is really set on this concept then perhaps you could further develop it?
Toy #3: This concept is creative and applies well to the creative audience targeted. It is a good idea because you can’t really get bored of it seeing as how you are designing the wrist band and the replay value reaches as far as your creativity. It would be interesting to see how you would complete this toy design for the class testing.
Toy #4: Good idea. However, this toy already exists with pictures instead of colours. Unless you are able to come up with something that makes it even more unique then just the fact that it has pictures instead of colours.
Toy#5: This is really cute but I don’t know how much you can really do with it. It might get boring after a while. However, if you do go with this idea I would make it spin on the fact that it is a designer toy and the special feature of it is that it is like you are designing it yourself.:)Personally I love designer toys, I even colect them. In addition, I would also like to suggest that if you do go with this idea I would continue taking it in the direction that you have displayed in your drawing. The fact that the bread looks cute and has eyes really makes it unique :)
