no projector

HEY GUYS!
I just received an email from Jesse saying that it might be possible that we wont get a projector. because they are running out and he didnt know we needed one until this morning when he read the email.
If we are in the middle, then we may not even need a projector. we asked for a blackboard just in case the projector isnt available.
for the noise maker Karan is getting one to show it tomorrow in class.
the arrows will be place on the walls and on the floor.
and the buttons will go on boxes.
any suggestions? comments?

Layout of how the place is going to look like

So basically this is how the event is going to look like
The scoreboard will be placed at the other wall, but if any other suggestions to where it should be located, please be my guest.
If you would like me to make any changes then tell me so, so that i can make another layout of our event and use it as a guide top where certain things should be located

Rules of the Game & Button Instructions

Before the Game Instructions
-  Take any ONE button & make sure it has THREE lives (ribbons)
-  Wait for the Predator vs Prey Game to begin (with a fog horn/megaphone etc)
During the Game Instructions
-  Search for and tag your Prey (indicated on the back of your button)
-  When you tag your Prey, the must give you one of THEIR original lives(coordinated by colour)
-  During a Predator/Prey life exchange, neither player may tag another or be tagged by another until the exchange is complete
-  The objective is to get as many lives from your Prey (ex if you have a mosquito button, you must find as many human lives as possible)
-  When the game has ended, report to the Predator vs Prey table to enter your score and see who has won
After the Game
-  Keep your button!

On the BACKS of the buttons are we sticking the instructions with a sticker printed from the computer?  if so, can i buy the sticky stuff tonight and print the button instructions for tomorrow?

And!! should the instructions read as follows:

Human eats bear OR Human kills bear?
Bear eats cat etc...

We've come a long way but only have a few days left. Lets get this ironed out!

please update online images with this poster.. it has the final colours and images used on the buttons

Logistics Update #2

Hey guys,
logistics is wondering if you guys have any suggestions in how to put the score board, because we wont be against a wall as we discussed.
we have a banner that needs to be printed, I will posted tonite on the blog so u guys can see it. the idea is to have arrows around the campus guiding towards our interaction. we have the layout. we just need to print it.
Gretchen is putting together the video of the animals.

BTW, love the new button design. and the poster looks amazing!

JUST IN CASE PEOPLE ARE NOT READING COMMENTS

On the topic of
"ANY NEWS ON THE RIBBONS??"
Claudia said...

"I have not bought them yet because I keep asking people to change one of the red colours on the buttons, they both look the same. This will confuse people when playing.
I also asked how many of each kind of buttons we are ordering.
I NEED this information before i can purchase ribbons for the project
....some one please get back to me"

Katie Gale said...

"We just posted the button information. The colours you'll need are as follows: Light Blue, Red, Purple, Green, And silver/white (whichever is easier to get)

Also to clarify, the button group will help with the assemblage of the pins and ribbons but we're under the impression that you're responsible for the design and delivery of the ribbons to class on wed, correct?"

Button order has been placed. 600 in total.

We had to change the button designs to correspond with the rules of the game, so these are the ones that we came up with:
The colours of the designs will be different as we had to make them CMYK but the web requires RGB
Also, could someone from the promotions team e-mail me cg06xk@student.ocad.ca for the original picture files to upload to the predator-vs-prey website? Thanks.

Ps. We apologize for the confusion with the switch of images, but Dennis' post was for suggested designs but we needed to change the images to correspond with the rules of the game

The cycle will be as follows: Human>Bear>Cat>Bird>Mosquito>Human

RIBBONS

ANY NEWS ON THE RIBBONS??

Mashup vid?

Any word on the video? Youtube has wayyyyyy too many clips on 'animals fighting' haha. Some are amazing. The national geographic ones are awesome!

Any word on buttons?

WEBSITE IMAGE

**need to fix the image on the website to say PREDATOR not PEDATOR... (missing the R)

Website

i was just thinking that maybe we should provide a small teaser on the website as to what will be involved.. to attract people to our event

maybe mention that they need to come to the event to take part in something involving experience and interactions and they will only be able to take part if they arrive at the event and get involved in our experience... or something..

Event Website

things to include on the predator-vs-prey.com website:

-facebook event URL (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=logo#/event.php?eid=143608865555)

-description of what the event is (The goal of this project is to design and implement a compelling interactive experience that enriches our school (OCAD) during an event known as Activate!! Come and join us for some fun, exciting times and interesting experiences! INVITE ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS)

-any other important info anyone can think of...

Event instructions a secret ?

Let's keep the event a secret!! It will keep people interested until the event, thinking what it's all about!

Website Launched

http://predator-vs-prey.com/
**NOW WORKS**

Right now it only has the promotion poster on it.

Did we want to have anything else on it before the event, or did we want to keep all the info (instructions/buttons etc) secret?

Advertising through facebook

Everybody!!

Don't forget to advertise through your STATUS UPDATES!!!!! A good way to let people know what is going on in our lives right!

Start doing this from today or tomorrow at the latest until FRIDAY 3RD of APRIL!!

Poster

Great job on the poster Anthea!!

This has been added to the facebook event and group!!

Promotions - Poster For Online Use (Facebook, ETC..)

Buttons/Logistics/And soundscaping?

Great designs for the buttons Dennis! Would it be possible to make the colors more distinct? Maybe red/yellow/green/blue/white?

So I think its good to move forward with Dennis logo design for Predator Vs. Prey (and the title obviously) and incorporate that into promotions and documentation.

Katie has the spec requirements for the buttons as well as the ordering info. Would you be able to send her the files in the workable file so she can have them sent off tomorrow?

As for logistics. Any thought onto how we could have our game commencement sound heard as far as possible? Megaphone from the school? Some loud horn? Who knows, any thoughts?

Everything seems to be on track for now. If possible we would like an update from the teams tomorrow to be ready for class on wednesday. Also to all the buttons team, as well as the ribbons, if that can be sorted out by noon tomorrow that would be ideal.

Forward ho!

FACEBOOK EVENT and other stuff

Hello everybody!

Logistics plan

We will be using paper arrows to guide people to our interaction. We can put them around OCAD. These arrows can be made out of newsprint paper, or something that is cheap but it wont generate too much waste. something to be recycle.
For the setting we need to put the tittle "Predator vs. Prey" on a visible space. So depends on where we are actually locating the interaction the sign will go either on top of us, or on the bottom (the table).
There will be a table (we can borrow that from one of the classrooms) where we will be setting up the projector and the laptop. We will be making a video with the predators and preys, as Christian suggested, and a layout for the scores.
Regarding where we will be putting the ribbons or pins that we are recovering (for the life count) we will have two carton boxes under the table so we put them there. this is with the purpose of non generating a mess around the room.
Boxes can be get from a convinience store or even in aboveground.
We thought that to cover the table (so it looks nice) we could put some paper, or a cloth (pretty cheap at the dollar store)

This is what we have so far.
Any other suggestions??

Website

The website domain has been bought:

predator-vs-prey.com

I will be getting a rough layout done this weekend and will be needing from the other teams:

- Instructions to the Game
- Location (time, place, room)
- Any graphics/buttons that need to be incorporated (I know some have been posted but they're not finalized yet, so I'm holding off using them for now)

The promotion team should post a comment on anything else they want on the website since I assume it'll be part of the promotion.

I will post an update when the layout has been uploaded and things are officially launched and working so keep on eye on this.

The Promotion Group

Name of our experience: Predator vs. Prey

Promoting
a)everyone in the class must promote this event on their own personal facebook page (or any other blog sites you may own). Whether it be in their status, a note or whatever etc. It should include the name of the experience, the date, and the location it is taking place
 b) The promotion group will be making a facebook group to promote the experience. Everyone in the class should join this group and invite as many OCAD friends as possible
c) The promotion group will also post a notice of this event on the OCAD facebook group
d) a logo has also been made. It is the classes choice if they like it or not

How we will contribute Before, During, and after the event
Before: Everything stated above
During: It can be our job to rally people up. This means going to lounges and just random places and telling them "hey go over there this is whats happening...."
After: We could help take pictures for the documentation group and provide the logo (if chosen) to the documentation group.

1. Man > eagle, snake, rabbit
2 Eagle > snake, rabbit, bacteria
3. Snake > rabbit, bateria
4. Rabbit > bacteria
5. Bacteria > an

It doesn't make a lot of sense but that's what I've come up with. I'm suggesting maybe for the animals that are less tier have more lives than the higher tiered animals.

Documentation Team

THE DOCUMENTATION

1) Movie

Olivia will be taking care of documenting the event on film including the progress of the intervention as well as the actual game from one person's journey through it.

2) Booklet
Kaitlynd, with the help of the rest of the members, will be doing a mini booklet (quarter-size to 8.5x11in paper) to be handed out to the class as a keepsake of the project. It will:

- Explain briefly the game instructions
- Game in progress (people taking/ripping lives)
- Document the winner
- Show a "Behind the Scenes" look
- Have a complimentary button to be given to the class members

Andrea will be taking care of the photographs during the event.

3) Website
Jeannie will be taking care of the website (getting the domain name, layout design/coding). The website will be hosted on a personal server. It will essentially be an online version of the booklet, but with more information. It will have the following pages:

- About (how we created the event)
- The Game (instructions and buttons displayed)
- The Event (how it unfolded)
- Gallery (our photos of the event)
- Where are they now? (allows people to tell us where their button is now and their experience with the event)

These pages may change.

*WE NEED A NAME FOR THE EVENT SO WE CAN CREATE A URL FOR THE WEBSITE*
(which is needed for the buttons, I believe)

THE COSTS
  • Booklet: each takes up about two 8.5x11's totaling at 50 pages total. We only need to print one good colored version of the booklet, and take colored photocopies of these pages (about $0.40 at Staples). We will probably end up stapling the pages down the middle. Total: $25 but could change if we add/subtract pages
  • Website: $10 for domain name if we're able to get a free server which is likely
Estimated Total: $35
* if we do some pages of the booklet in black and white, the cost of it will be lower

Katie Gale: Button Making Team

The cost of the buttons will be .35ea. If we order 750 of them (which I believe will be more than enough) the cost works out to be approx $12 ea. Depending on the cost of other materials (ribbons ect.) we can lower the amount of buttons we purchase if that needs to happen. Feedback? Since I know the owner of the company I have no problem taking responsibility of preparing the image file to send to them based on the template they require, and I also have no problem picking up the buttons.

Just a reminder: I'll need the website from the documentation team for when I place the order such that our pins can look something like this:

BRING $20 NEXT WEEK!

Everyone must bring $25 next week. Anyone who doesn't will be penalized 20% of their Project Three mark. It seems like you'll be getting some of it back, but it's still essential that the money be collected to cover any unexpected expenses. Nicole will be collecting the money and keeping careful track of it. Please do not spend any money unless it has been approved by Nicole.

Your Button Distribution Station Site

So I figured that right smack in the middle of the Auditorium would be just about the most central place possible. If you're showing any drawings or posters, you could always put them on easels.

DUE FRIDAY MARCH 27

Hey Class!

Thanks for a great job deciding on a concept today. We are absolutely well on our way to creating an enjoyable interactive experience.

Here are a list of the teams again:

Documentation Team: Kaitlynd, Olivia, Andrea C., Jeannie
Promotion Team: Kyla, Anthea, Dennis
Button Making Team: Annika, Lesley, Katie, Garrett
Narration Team: Claudia, Stephanie, Wendy, Komal
Logistics Team: Karan, Andrea R., Gretchen, Margarita

In your teams, your tasks for this week are as follows:
*Please have this information uploaded to the Blog (one neat post per team - to keep organized) for everyone Friday March 27th

Button Making Team:

-proposal (what will you do?)
-button design
-sent to the button company by Friday March 27th (Latest by Monday)
-cost of buttons
-let us know how many cycles there will be (number of colour groups)
-which animals will be included in the game (what kills what)
-the general “rules” of the game

Promotion Team:
-proposal (what will you do?) (before, during and after)
-name of our experience
-any logo design if necessary
-any cost for supplies if necessary for promotions
-include the Activate Logo in any designs you make (if you can)

Narration Team:
-proposal (what will you do?)
-ribbon costs
-design of the ribbons
-how the ribbons will work with the buttons

Documentation Team:
-proposal (what will you do?)
-any cost for supplies if necessary

Logistics Team:
-proposal (what will you do?)
-think of any supplies we will need on the day of the event
-any cost for supplies if necessary
-how will the booth be set up on the day of the event (include a concept drawing/design of the booth)
*Christian came up with an awesome idea for the booth:
We could borrow a projector to play mashed up clips of old national geographic images/videos with animals killing and fighting etc. to display in the background against a wall while the entire event is going on

Button 'lives'

Hey everyone I was doing some cost estimates on using fabric ribbons for the lives.

for thin single colour ribbons we are generally looking at $0.30/meter
if we have a total of 500 buttons (100 of each different colour)
and the lives are an inch long
and there are 3 lives per button
the total would be $11.50

not very expensive and they look nice
also I went to a thrift store and found a few roles of ribbon for $.99
I only saw red and green...so I could pick those up if we go with ribbon

Button Bloggin - Christian, Garrett, Lesley, Annika, Katie

Storyboard - Claudia, Stephanie, Wendy, Komal

Multiple Swap Instructions
  • Trade for ONE button.
  • Trade for TWO buttons.
  • Trade for a blue button. (and similar to this)
  • Trade for a different picture.
  • Trade for a different word.
  • Trade for a pattern.
  • Trade UP a size.
  • Trade DOWN a size.

ATTRACTION: In our case we can attract individuals by carrying boards and having buttons on them if different sizes, shapes, colours, expressions and words. It will also be interesting to see the "infiltration" of our experience within other on-going experiences.

* Another very possible part of the initial attraction could come before ACTIVATE! begins. Because of our need for buttons, a Button Drive could be held for a period of time to collect buttons from students and faculty.

ENTRY: A person would start off by looking for his/her favourite buttons. It can be any button of their choice. The experience would start as soon as a person selecst the button and puts it on.

ENGAGEMENT: Pinning the buttons on a sleeve, and the trading of the buttons.

EXIT: The experience would officially end at the end of ACTIVATE! At that particular time, a person could return the buttons or keep the ones they have.

EXTENSION: Although we've put a cap on how long the experience lasts (officially), participants can still choose to continue trading their buttons if they so wished. The buttons are something they can take with them for memories' sake.

Storyboard- Anna, Anthea, Nicole, Kyla, Dennis

Storyboard, Andrea R, Gretchen R, Karan P

Note: Something is wrong with the colour on the second one. Sorry.

Steph's Storyboard

Random Sam
Loves:  Talking to people, talking to animals, taking long walks
Hates:  Nothing really...
Eats:  Mostly pb&j sandwiches
Wears:  The cleanest clothes in the heap
Listens to:  Whatever sounds good

'A heart for a hug'
The general idea is that the 'heart for a hug' hearts would be passed around the school and surrounding area.  The 'shock wave' effect would be seen by the participants by the increasing number on the counter.

Project Three Provisional Teams and Tasks

Hi Class:

Good work zeroing in on a concept today. There are lots of unanswered questions about our button making concept, but there's also lots of room for growth.

You have volunteered to be part of (or have been assigned to) a provisional team.

Documentation: Kaitlynd, Olivia, Andrea C., Jeannie
Promotion: Kyla, Anna, Anthea, Nicole, Dennis
The Button Making: Annika, Lesley, Katie, Garrett, Christian
The Narrative Game: Claudia, Stephanie, Wendy, Komal
Temporal Logistics: Karan, Andrea R., Gretchen, Margarita

In your teams, your tasks for this week are as follows.

1) Develop a fully specified variant on the button making concept. Be prepared to present this variant to the class next week, both as a storyboard and through role-playing. Your storyboards and role-plays should be more polished than they were during the individual ideation stage of the Project. Post your new storyboard to the blog, bring a hard copy to class next week, and come to class prepared to role-play your variant. Bring any props you may need for the role-playing, including any necessary A/V equipment.

Contemplate the project in terms of the five phases of a compelling experience that we went over in class: Attraction, Entry, Engagement, Exit and Extension. You should be able to describe how you plan to deal with each of these phases in the context of your variant.

2) Develop a detailed strategy for how to tackle your team's prescribed issue:

Documentation: a proposal for the document (presumably multi-media) you will all take away as a prospective portfolio piece at the end of the Project;
Promotion: a proposal for how to promote the project before, during and after the Activate event, without posters;
The Button Making: a proposal for how to construct the buttons required for the experience;
The Narrative Game: a proposal for how to employ narrative play as a strategy to enhance and add conceptual depth to the experience;
The Physical Space: a proposal for how to spatially sequence the project requirements during the weeks, days and hours leading up to, during and subsequent to the Activate event.

I look forward to developing this experience together. See you next week.

-Jesse

Project Three Story Board:Karan

Flip book Idea.

Andrea's story board- ""Be a Cloud"

The idea of this interaction is to relax and to feel what is like to be in the sky and look down on the city.
It would be simulated with an inflatable, a projector, smoke machines, and fans ;)

Name: Lisa the yoga girl
Love: books, walks on the beach and vegan food
Hate: loud music, emo kids and being social
Wear: yoga pants, lululemon clothing
Eat: vegan
Listen: indie music, and nature sounds to relax
Lives: urban area with 2 roomates

Interactive Music Video

Persona:

The wanna be dace video star

Likes: Dancing around in front of cameras, Listening to loud music, and use social networking sites.

Dislikes: Dirty Pubs, not being the center of attention.

Lives: Lives at home with their parents in their basement, practicing routines

Eats: like fast food, chocolate and red meat

Annika's Proposal

My proposal is to create a relaxing space for OCAD students between classes, for when they cannot make it home between classes for a nap sesh.

My plan is to have a king size bed so that it is large enough for more than one or two people to use at the same time. The bed will be placed in a student lounge area so that it is easily accessible and is in a relatively quiet area.

Lesley's Proposal

WHO: OCAD students/Public
What: Binoculars
Where: Butterfield Park
This experience is to take place outdoors, in butterfield park. There will be a set of 5 or 7 (whichever we can afford) "coin" binoculars (which are actually free) that are all facing towards OCAD. These binoculars are all around the benchlinke ring in Butterfield park underneath the "table top". When looking into them, they will showcase slides of art made by students of the school along with other photographs and works that represent OCAD. From the experience of looking into these binoculars (each with a different set of slides) gives you a quick introduction or preview of what OCAD is all about just as you're walking down the street. You don't need to walk into OCAD to understand what it's all about. The concept is that by "looking" or sight-seeing OCAD, you get to look into it.
THE EXPERIENCE:
persona #1: OCAD STUDENT
- intended reaction would be that they appreciate the work of their colleagues and feel encouraged to incorporate or donate slides of their own work to help represent the scool
persona #2: COMMUNITY MEMBER/TOURIST (WALKING BY)
- intended reaction would be that they are interested in the random arrangement of "sight seeing binoculars", they look at OCAD and see more than they expected, what it's all about and it's contents, rather than its exterior.
